Airbag
2016-09-09On certain vehicles, the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), which controls airbag and pretensioner deployment, contains a software defect which may prevent the deployment of frontal airbags and pretensioners in certain circumstances. Failure of frontal airbags and seatbelt pretensioners to deploy in a crash (when warranted) could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will reflash the SDM with new software. In vehicles with any previous deployment events recorded in the SDM, the dealers will replace the existing SDM with a new SDM containing the latest software. Note: This recall affects 2014-2017 model year Sierra LD/Silverado LD models and 2015-2016 model year Sierra HD/Silverado HD model vehicles.

Other
2017-08-03Certain regular cab vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 210.2 - Lower Universal Anchorage Systems for Restraint Systems and Booster Cushions. The ownerβs manual may be missing written instructions for using the tether anchorages and child restraint anchorage systems in the vehicle, which is contrary to standard. Correction: Owners will be mailed ownerβs manual inserts containing the information required by CMVSS 210.2. For unsold vehicles, dealers will include the insert to the manual prior to sale.
Seats And Restraints
2017-09-15Certain double-cab pickup trucks equipped with a manual passenger side frontal airbag βON/OFFβ switch may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 209 β Seat Belt Assemblies. The front passenger seat belt retractor assembly may not be equipped with the correct torsion bar. If the front passenger airbag is manually turned off and inadvertently left off with an adult in the front passenger seat, this condition could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger in the event of a crash. Correction: For unsold vehicles, dealers will replace both the driver and passenger retractors, and for sold vehicles, dealers will replace the passenger retractor.
Fuel System
2019-02-08Issue: On certain 3500 series trucks, the level sensor in the front fuel tank may malfunction. In rare cases, the front fuel tank may over-fill and expand, causing it to contact the driveshaft. Operators may hear a grinding or knocking noise if this happens. This could create a hole in the tank and cause a fuel leak. Note: This problem only affects cab and chassis models equipped with a gasoline engine and dual fuel tanks. Safety Risk: Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, creates the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the rear-tank fuel-pump module replaced. Dealers will also inspect the front tank and replace if necessary.
Electrical
2019-04-26Issue: A problem with the engine-block heater cable or the terminals that connect the heater cable to the block heater could cause a short circuit. Note: This problem only affects trucks equipped with a Duramax diesel 6.6 litre engine and the optional engine-block heater cable. Safety Risk: A short circuit could cause damage to engine components and create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to either replace the engine-block heater or replace both the engine-block heater and cord, depending on the model. Do not use your engine-block heater until the repairs are performed.
Brakes
2019-06-28Issue: On certain vehicles, there could be a reduction in power brake assist due to a decrease in output from the vacuum pump. This could cause a hard brake pedal and an increase in brake pedal effort to stop the vehicle. Safety Risk: A sudden increase in brake pedal force could lead to an increase in stopping distance. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to reprogram the electronic brake control module.
Electrical
2019-06-28Issue: On certain trucks equipped with a power sliding rear window, the rear defroster circuit could overheat. This could cause melting, smoke or, in rare instances, a fire. Safety Risk: A fire could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the covers for the buss bar and contacts for the rear sliding window. If the rear window or sliding glass assembly are damaged due to a problem with the rear defroster, they will also be replaced.
Other
2019-08-21Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation βDOT 287β along with the lettering βVMRβ (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.
Brakes
2019-10-24Issue: On certain vehicles, there may be an error in the electronic-brake control module software. This could cause the driveline-protection system to activate when a wheel-speed sensor fails. If this happens, the brakes could apply and cause the vehicle to pull to one side. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with four-wheel drive, a 5.3-L engine, and a 3.08 ratio rear axle. The problem can only occur when the vehicle is in four-wheel drive or automatic mode, and travelling at a speed between 66 and 97 km/h (41 and 60 mph). A wheel-speed sensor failure will cause the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning lights to turn on, and a "Service StabiliTrak" message to display. Safety Risk: A vehicle that suddenly pulls to one side could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the electronic-brake control module software. General Motors advises that using two-wheel-drive mode can eliminate the risk until the recall repair is completed.
Electrical
2021-07-01Issue: On certain vehicles, a small coolant leak could cause the engine block-heater cable to short circuit while plugged in. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a 6.6 L diesel engine and an optional block-heater power cable. This recall replaces Transport Canada Recall # 2019-204. All vehicles repaired under that recall require a second repair. Safety Risk: A short circuit could cause damage to engine components and create the risk of a fire. Corrective Action: General Motors will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Do not use your engine-block heater until the repairs are performed.
Fuel System
2023-02-02Issue: On certain trucks equipped with a diesel engine and dual fuel tanks, the rear fuel pump may not transfer enough fuel to the front tank. If this happens, you may notice an engine hesitation and the check engine light may turn on. The engine could also stall suddenly while driving, and you may not be able to restart it. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealership to inspect the rear fuel tank and fuel pump module, and replace them if necessary. The dealer will also add a fuel tank vent hose.
Electrical
2024-05-24Issue: On certain trucks, the repairs completed by a General Motors dealer during recall N192220470 (Transport Canada recall no. 2019-325) or customer satisfaction program no. N192270330 may not have been completed properly. As a result, a second repair is required. Additionally, certain trucks may not have had the updated parts installed during production. On certain trucks equipped with a power sliding rear window, the rear defroster wiring could overheat and melt. Safety Risk: Wiring that overheats and melts can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace the contact cover for the sliding rear window. The dealer will also update the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) software, if necessary. If the rear window or sliding glass assembly are damaged, they will be replaced.
